Star Wars Outlaws to Feature Selectable Cinematic Gameplay Mode
Ubisoft’s recent reveal of Star Wars Outlaws, featuring a pair of outlaws on a high-stakes run from the Empire and other dangers, has sparked interest in Ubisoft Massive’s post-Division 2 direction. In conversation with GamesRadar+, creative director Julian Gerighty shared insights into the studio’s evolved goals, emphasizing a shift towards a unique, non-live service offering.
“We set out to challenge ourselves and develop new skills. Part of that was enhancing our engine for seamless open-world exploration, whether by speeder or spaceship, and the other part was mastering a more cinematic storytelling approach,” said Gerighty.
The technical advancements in Star Wars Outlaws became evident with Ubisoft’s gameplay showcase, which highlighted a feature not seen in Bethesda’s Starfield: the smooth transition from ground to space.
Gerighty mentioned the widescreen presentation seen in the demo will be an in-game option, adding a film-like quality to the visuals. “We’ve devoted considerable effort to refining narrative tools as well, ensuring players can actively shape their dialogue and story outcomes,” he added.
Slated for a 2024 release, Star Wars Outlaws is set for next-gen consoles—PS5, Xbox Series X/S—and PC. For more insights, check out GamesRadar+’s full interview with Julian Gerighty.
